Post-Publication Discussion

Jurnal Ilmiah Keperawatan (JIKSHT) supports constructive scholarly discussion and encourages the continuous evaluation of published research to advance nursing science, clinical practice, nursing education, and healthcare services. The journal recognizes that post-publication discussion is an important component of scholarly communication, allowing researchers, practitioners, and readers to raise questions, provide alternative interpretations, identify limitations, and contribute additional evidence concerning published articles.

1. Purpose and Scope

Post-publication discussion provides an opportunity for readers and researchers to comment on articles published in JIKSHT, including their methodology, findings, interpretation, clinical relevance, and contribution to nursing and healthcare research.

The journal welcomes comments that are evidence-based, scientifically relevant, respectful, and constructive. Discussions should aim to improve scientific understanding and contribute to the development of knowledge rather than to promote personal interests or engage in inappropriate criticism.

2. Submission of Post-Publication Comments

Readers who wish to comment on a published article may submit their comments to the editorial office through the journal's official communication channels.

Submissions should:

  • Clearly identify the published article being discussed, including its title, author(s), publication year, and DOI or article URL, where available.

  • Present a clear and relevant scholarly argument or question.

  • Provide appropriate references and supporting evidence for factual or scientific claims.

  • Maintain a professional, respectful, and objective tone.

  • Disclose any relevant conflicts of interest.

  • Avoid defamatory statements, personal attacks, unsupported allegations, and information that could compromise patient confidentiality.

The editorial team may request revisions, supporting documentation, or clarification before considering a comment for publication.

3. Editorial Assessment and Review

All post-publication comments are subject to editorial assessment to ensure their relevance, scientific quality, ethical appropriateness, and compliance with the journal's publication policies.

Where necessary, the editor may seek independent expert review or invite the original author(s) to respond. The journal will assess comments and responses fairly and consistently, without allowing personal, institutional, or commercial interests to improperly influence editorial decisions.

The editor reserves the right to reject submissions that fall outside the journal's scope, lack sufficient scholarly merit, contain inappropriate content, or fail to meet the journal's ethical and editorial standards.

4. Right of Response

When a comment raises substantive questions or concerns about a published article, the original author(s) may be invited to submit a response.

Responses should address the issues raised directly, provide relevant evidence or clarification, and maintain a professional and respectful tone. Authors are encouraged to acknowledge legitimate limitations, correct factual misunderstandings, and clarify their methods or interpretations when appropriate.

The journal may publish the comment and the author's response together or separately, depending on editorial judgment and the circumstances of the case. The opportunity to respond does not guarantee publication, and all responses remain subject to editorial assessment.

5. Corrections, Expressions of Concern, and Retractions

Post-publication discussions may identify errors, omissions, ethical concerns, or other issues that affect the reliability or interpretation of a published article.

When such concerns arise, JIKSHT will assess the available evidence and take appropriate action in accordance with its publication ethics policies. Depending on the nature and seriousness of the issue, the journal may:

  • Publish a correction when an error requires formal amendment but does not invalidate the overall findings.

  • Publish an expression of concern when significant questions remain unresolved and readers need to be informed.

  • Retract an article when the findings are unreliable or serious ethical or publication violations warrant retraction.

  • Refer concerns to the relevant institution, research ethics committee, or other appropriate authority when necessary.

Post-publication comments alone do not automatically establish research misconduct or justify retraction. Editorial actions will be based on an appropriate assessment of the evidence and the circumstances of the case.

6. Publication and Accessibility

Accepted post-publication comments and author responses may be published on the journal's website to support transparency and continued scholarly engagement.

Where appropriate, the comment and response will be linked to the original article so that readers can access the discussion in context. Published comments and responses must comply with the journal's copyright, licensing, privacy, and publication ethics policies.

JIKSHT may decline to publish comments that do not meet its editorial standards or that cannot be responsibly published because of legal, ethical, or confidentiality concerns.

7. Ethical Standards and Confidentiality

All participants in post-publication discussions must comply with accepted standards of scholarly integrity. Authors of comments, original article authors, editors, and reviewers must disclose relevant conflicts of interest and avoid misrepresentation of research findings.

The journal will handle allegations of misconduct or other serious concerns through appropriate editorial procedures rather than treating unverified allegations as established facts. Personal data, confidential information, and sensitive health information must be protected in accordance with applicable laws and ethical requirements.

8. Commitment to Scholarly Integrity

JIKSHT considers post-publication discussion an essential part of responsible scholarly publishing. By facilitating constructive dialogue, the journal seeks to strengthen the reliability of the scientific record, encourage evidence-based nursing practice, and promote continuous improvement in nursing and healthcare research.

This policy is informed by recognized publication ethics principles, including guidance from the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE), and will be applied consistently with the journal's editorial policies and applicable ethical standards.
